A space shooter remade for the modern battlefield
FZ: Formation Z is a modern remake of Jaleco’s classic Formation Z, rebuilt by Granzella Inc. This arcade game keeps the original’s defining idea, a machine that can switch between robot and flight forms, while updating the presentation, sound design, weapons, and action flow for modern players.
Land, air, customization, and score-chasing momentum
FZ: Formation Z includes five large missions that players can move through while choosing their own approach to combat. Instead of only reacting to enemies from one direction, players must think about when to conserve energy, when to transform, when to push forward, and when to rely on ground-based precision.
Customization gives the game extra depth. Players earn FZ Points during missions and use them in The Factory to unlock new Ixpel units, cosmetic items, parts, colors, stickers, and performance modules. The module system uses four available slots, allowing players to build a balanced machine or specialize in one area. However, it can be repetitive over time.
A faithful arcade revival with modern depth
FZ: Formation Z successfully modernizes a classic arcade concept by blending transformation-based combat with customization and score-driven progression. The ability to switch between robot and flight forms keeps battles dynamic, while unlockable modules and Ixpel units add replay value beyond nostalgia. Although repetition may settle in during extended sessions, the game still delivers fast-paced action and satisfying arcade energy.
